Lessons

The entrance of the movingartsbase

What happens?

In a lesson, you'll work through very simple everyday activities (e.g. sitting down and standing up; walking; lying down) but approach them in a completely different way. The teacher will use a gentle guiding touch to make you more aware of, and to help you release, tension and imbalance.

No strenuous activities are involved

Wear everyday clothes, as long as they aren't too restrictive (i.e. no tight jeans or skirts)

You'll be asked to take your shoes off

How many lessons will I need?

Alexander Technique lessons are about learning a skill you can then apply for yourself. So how many lessons you need depends on how quickly you learn and what level you want to get to. The Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique suggests 20 - 30 lessons as a thorough grounding in the Alexander Technique and how to apply it in your life. In my experience, even short courses of 6 lessons can give people an insight into the technique and many of the benefits of applying it for themselves.
